It wasn’t love at first sight when I watched the first chapters, maybe because I’m not usually drawn to hospital dramas. Until I came across the fundamental question: yes or not? A week later, I gave the drama another chance and Boom! I was engaged! I can’t say it was passion, but it was a decent script, following the proposal made. One thing that really won me over was the attention to detail, especially in recreating the past. The representation of the 80s – from fashion to cell phones and other products – was spot-on. It brought back vibes of “Reply 1988,” and lo and behold, it was the same author, Lee Woo-jeong. Couldn’t help but feel that lovely sense of nostalgia!

“Hospital Playlist” aired in March 2020 as a Netflix original series. From the title, you can already guess what it’s about. Set in a hospital where a group of doctors share the same passion for music. The show shows their struggles inside and outside the hospital and the different approaches they have towards patients. But it’s not just the usual slash-medical musical drama – it’s the slash-medical musical drama with heart. It’s adorable and exciting! The big lesson is that, at the end of the day, our professions are a craft that is part of only one part of our lives. I finished feeling lighter and more compassionate.

Ultimately, the show does its best to humanize its characters. For those who are not in the medical field, like me, it helps to increase empathy for these professionals. It’s difficult to remain indifferent to their personalities; at least one will capture your attention. It is a delicate series that, in its unpretentiousness, ends up enchanting and involving the viewer with each episode. The soundtrack is also a show in itself, and of course, the cast, in addition to being excellent actors, also sings and plays several instruments!
