Writing about this show took me a little while; I’m not sure why. This production excels in its warm, genuine, and (fairly) accurate depiction of autistic life and struggles. On that note, it reminded me of “Move to Heaven” and “It’s Okay Not To Be Okay,” two other remarkable shows exploring similar themes. The portrayal of the character by Park Eun-bin was particularly impressive. She was able to embrace the unique aspects that define her character’s life. What distinguishes “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” is its refusal to apologize or diminish Woo’s identity, even in moments of cruelty and insensitivity. The show makes a subtle yet powerful statement that Woo’s triumphs aren’t despite her differences. By fully embracing her neurodivergent identity, the show sends a clear message: there’s no need to apologize for being different; instead, celebrate and own it. This perspective on neurodivergence offers a refreshing outlook – recognizing that being different isn’t a choice, and there’s no need for apologies.
