I had the privilege of experiencing Parasite with minimal knowledge of South Korean cinema, a decision that amplified its impact tenfold. Crafted by the visionary Bong Joon-ho, whose previous works like Okja and Mother already stand as testaments to his genius, Parasite is an intricate and masterful critique of the capitalist system. The title’s focus on a family labeled as “parasites” is only the surface; the film digs deeper, forcing us to question who the true “leeches” in society might be.

What makes Parasite truly remarkable is how it defies categorization. It is not bound by the conventions of a single genre. Instead, it blends elements of dark comedy, suspense, and family drama into a seamless and gripping narrative. Humor, sharp and intentional, is woven throughout the script and performances, offering moments of levity even as the suspense tightens its grip. Every detail feels deliberate, every frame meticulously constructed to pull you further into its layered world.
